Arjun is from the nation of Nhalmasque located in the central mountains of Ilsabard. He is a magus working for the Frashokereti, a group of wise men who inquire about the beginning and ultimate end of the universe.He's was sent on a mission by his elders to re-establish communication with the Frashokereti's contacts in Eorzea now that Nhalmasque has been liberated from Garlean occupation.

In combat, Arjun functions like a hybrid between a Scholar and Orator from older Final Fantasy games. He is ill-suited for facing enemies head on but is extremely valuable when it comes to supporting more combat capable characters.He is a strategist that analyzes the capabilities of the enemy and his allies as well as the battlefield. By using Magia, he can perform high speed calculations and run mental simulations to predict enemy movement and pinpoint weaknesses that his allies can exploit.Arjun can also use "words of power" to inflict status effects on enemies but at a great cost to his physical constitution.


Trismegistus

It is the magi's belief that humans have evolved to gather information, analyze it and then directly solve any problems perceived. They do not believe that the brain exists to control the body, but rather that the body exists solely so that the brain may function more effectively. In order to improve one's control over their mind and body, a magus must study and master Trismegistus, a set of techniques that originate from The Founder, the first and greatest magus of Nhalmasque.

  • Thought Accel is the ability to use the entire body as a resource to accelerate one's thoughts and information processing capabilities. Through the use of meditation, it allows one to use the bare minimum resources to keep the body functioning while rerouting the surplus of energy into the brain. The more complex a calculation or simulation is, the more calorie his body needs to burn, generating heat in the process. Arjun runs the risk of overheating if he uses this technique liberally.

  • Mental Tetration allows a magus to split their mind into partitions to handle several calculative and cognitive tasks at once. An average magus can have up to two partitions working at any given time but Arjun is able to maintain five mental partitions at all times.

  • Memory Engraving allows a magus to store vast amounts of memories by engraving them with emotional or sensational significance. This process "strengthens" a memory, allowing it to be stored in the deep recesses of a magus' mind without risk of deletion. A magus can invoke the memory later on by using the emotional or sensational stimulus they've engraved into the memory.


Aether Strings

A unique ability that Arjun developed for intelligence gathering and self-defense. He claims that he was inspired by the sericulture of Radz-at-Han, extensively observing and analyzing the silkworms used in Hannish silk farms. By channeling his aether into thin strands and using his nerve endings as a pseudo-silk gland, he's able to produce fibers that function as extensions of his nervous system.

  • Fragile - Similar to actual silk threads, they are quite fragile and can easily be destroyed with little effort. Their strength can be augmented by weaving them together. The amount of strings that Arjun can produce is dependent on his aether reserves.

  • Prehensile - What his strings lack in strength, they make up for in flexibility and maneuverability. Arjun has great control of his aether strings around a 5 fulm radius.

  • Mental Connection - Rather than a silk gland, Arjun produces his aether strings by precisely coursing aether to the nerve endings of his fingers and toes. When attached to another person's nerve endings it allows Arjun to access the other person's nervous system. This enables him to read and perceive other people's thoughts, memories and sensations and as long as the connection persists.

  • Mental Augmentation - While connected to someone via Aether strings, Arjun can boost their mental capabilities through the use of Trismegistus.


Words of Power

Words of Power are pseudo-spells derived from the language of the Ancients. When spoken, these words have a powerful mental and psychological effect to any living being originating from Etherys. For example, uttering the word "sleep" in the Ancient's language would compel any Etherian creature to lose consciousness and drift into slumber.As this language was meant to be spoken by the unsundered Ancients, modern humans are technically incapable of speaking them. The magi of Nhalmasque managed to circumvent this limitation by overworking their minds sevenfold, allowing them to speak the eldritch dialect of the ancients. Uttering one word of power is very taxing for even the most capable of magi and carries the risk of sundering one's physical and mental integrity.



The Magi of Nhalmasque

Before it was conquered by Garlemald and reduced to an Imperial province, Nhalmasque was a small nation located in the central mountains of Ilsabard. While considered an unremarkable place by most, Nhalmasque did have one claim to fame. A group of wisemen called the magi have resided in these mountains since at least the Third Astral Era. Most historical records about these scholars can be found in Thavnair whom they worked closely in the past prior to falling to Garlemald.According to ancient texts, while the alchemists of Thavnair concerned themselves with "the transformation of matter", the magi of Nhalmasque focused their inquiry on "the transformation of phenomena". This practice was called "cosmology" and focused on the origin of the universe and its eventual fate. Most of their work involves gathering data and using arithmetics and mental simulations to predict potential outcomes of events of varying scale. They're also capable of charting paths to intended outcomes, uncovering the necessary steps needed to ensure an ideal future comes to pass. Because of the nature of their work, the magi of Nhalmasque were also seen as seers or oracles who peered into the future.

The Frashokereti

The Frashokereti (𐬟𐬭𐬀𐬴𐬋⸱𐬐𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬙𐬌) is perhaps the largest community of magi in Nhalmasque. A magus from this order focuses their inquiry on potential calamities, doomsday scenarios and existential threats that could jeopardize all life on the star. They utilize a network of contacts and connections to gather information about world events and then run simulations using the gathered data to see if a potential doomsday scenario surfaces. While there exists many potential events that could cause great harm to mankind, the Frashokereti's ultimate goal is to find the calamity to end all calamities; a great disaster that would assure the destruction of all life in the star.

Persecution

When Garlemald conquered Nhalmasque, the practice of cosmology was heavily frowned upon by then emperor, Solus zos Galvus. Thus, many magi were put to the sword and their libraries were burned in massive pyres. While there are many speculation as to the true reason behind the persecution of the magi, it is believed that whoever was pulling the strings of the empire at the time saw them as a hindrance to their aspirations of dominion. An organization with the capability to peer into the future could throw a wrench to Garlemald's future skirmishes and plans for conquest.The Frashokereti suffered heavy losses during this time and was brought to the brink of collapse. However, they were able to preserve some of the foundational texts of cosmology by fleeing Nhalmasque before the Imperials descended upon the mountain nation.

Restoration

Nhalmasque regained its independence after the fall of Garlemald thanks to the intervention of Thavnair and its allies. The Garlean occupation has left the nation in tatters and a provisional government has been put in place until such a time that Nhalmasque fully recovers from the aftermath of war. The Frashokereti resurfaces after the liberation and has pledged their services to help rebuild Nhalmasque to its former glory. As such, they've sent emissaries to all parts of the star to re-establish connections with their information network as well as forge new alliances with like-minded individuals and organizations.

Rebuilding the Magi Order

Arjun is among the new generation of magi to join the ranks of the reformed Frashokereti order. His origins are unclear which is quite common for those who walk the path of a magus. There are some hints that can be gleamed from his appearance and surname.Looking at his appearance, it's quite evident that he's not a native of the Nhalmasque highlands. It's more likely that Arjun was born and raised in Thavnair, perhaps fathered by a magus who sought refuge in the island after the fall of Nhalmasque. His last name is also of Thavnair origin though it held little to no renown. Despite this, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who has interacted with Arjun prior to the resurgence of the Frashokereti. It's as if he only blipped into existence when his organization decided to come out of hiding.He along with several handpicked members of the brotherhood were sent on a special mission to build an information network in the lands outside of Ilsabard. They were to offer their services to the upper echelons of the kingdoms of these foreign lands in exchange for expanding their intelligence network through new contacts and informants. As for Arjun, he was tasked with building connections with the city-states of Eorzea.

Life in Eorzea

Arjun rapidly built his network by seeking employment under the monetarists of Ul'dah as an advisor on matters of the coin. Using his magus capabilities, he calculates the likeliness of success or failure of ventures with extreme accuracy, and predicts the best time to invest or withdraw on deals. This quickly earned him the favor of the Monetarists, which allowed Arjun to accumulate a significant amount of wealth in a short period of time. He used this wealth to construct a lavish home for himself as well as a sanctum where he can build his "Great Work". What this Great Work entails is anyone's guess as Arjun is tight-lipped about to anyone other than his closest confidants.
